Ranchi/Jamshedpur: During his visit to Jharkhand, Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the JMM-Congress-RJD coalition government of exacerbating insecurity among the state’s indigenous population by allegedly supporting Bangladeshi and Rohingya Muslim immigrants. Modi’s remarks came ahead of the year-end assembly elections in Jharkhand and were made against the backdrop of affidavits filed by the Home Ministry and UIDAI in the high court, highlighting infiltration issues in six tribal-majority districts.
Insecurity Among Tribals
Modi expressed concerns about the declining tribal population in the Santhal Pargana and Kolhan divisions. He claimed that infiltrators were encroaching upon local governance institutions and committing crimes against women, further fueling insecurity. Modi emphasized that a high court panel had recently been formed to investigate these allegations.
Political Allegations
At a BJP rally in Jamshedpur, Modi criticized the JMM, Congress, and RJD for allegedly aligning with Rohingya and Bangladeshi immigrants in a bid to create vote banks based on religion. “These parties want to exploit the situation for electoral gains,” Modi said. He urged Jharkhand voters to support the BJP to counter this perceived threat.
Modi also accused the coalition government of widespread corruption, describing the JMM, Congress, and RJD as “enemies of the state.” He referenced allegations of corruption and misuse of public funds, contrasting this with the hard work of the middle class.
Coalition Government’s Vulnerability
The PM suggested that the coalition government’s days were numbered, citing dissatisfaction among Jharkhand residents, including former CM Champai Soren and his family, who recently joined the BJP. Modi also highlighted issues such as the tragic deaths of young people competing for government positions, reflecting the state’s broader governance challenges.
Development Initiatives
During his visit, Modi inaugurated Vande Bharat trains and rail projects worth Rs 660 crore and transferred PMAY benefits totaling Rs 32 crore to beneficiaries.
