Floods in southern West Bengal have claimed the lives of three people and affected more than 2.5 lakh residents, according to officials on Thursday. Six districts have been severely impacted by the flooding, which has caused widespread damage across the region.
After visiting the flood-hit areas in Paschim Medinipur and Howrah districts, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee held a meeting at the state secretariat. She directed officials to prepare a comprehensive list of the damages caused by the calamity and instructed that road repairs begin as soon as the water recedes.
Banerjee also urged officials to formulate a plan to manage the water released by the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) from its dams, which has contributed to the flooding.
In a related incident, rising waters from the Buriganga canal flooded Banerjee’s Kalighat residence in the afternoon, although she was not at home at the time.
