Kanpur: In what marks the third attempt this month to derail a train near Kanpur, an empty LPG cylinder was discovered on the railway tracks near Prempur Station on the Delhi-Howrah rail line early Sunday morning. The Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP) responded quickly to the scene and removed the cylinder. An investigation is now underway.

The incident occurred as a goods train was traveling from Kanpur to Prayagraj on the loop line. The locomotive pilot, who had been asked to stop to allow an express train to pass, spotted the cylinder and immediately alerted the control room. Emergency brakes were applied, and railway officials removed the cylinder after confirming it was empty.

This follows a previous incident on September 9, when the Kalindi Express, traveling from Prayagraj to Bhiwani, collided with another gas cylinder placed on the tracks. Fortunately, no major damage occurred as the cylinder was thrown off the tracks due to the impact.

Authorities are treating these incidents with increasing seriousness, especially as another attempt was thwarted in Gujarat the day before, where miscreants had removed fish plates and keys from a section of the railway track near Surat.

The repeated attempts to sabotage railway operations have raised concerns, and security measures along key rail routes have been intensified. Investigations into the motives and identities of those responsible are ongoing.
