Sanjay Singh Accuses BJP of Conspiring to Remove Rani Lakshmibai’s Statue Near RSS Office

NEW DELHI: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of plotting to remove the statue of Rani Lakshmibai near the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office in Delhi. According to a statement released by the party, senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh claimed that this move is part of the BJP’s political legacy of disrespecting patriots and betraying freedom fighters.

Sanjay Singh alleged that BJP members and their ideological predecessors supported the British during India’s struggle for independence, and this betrayal persists in their actions today. He stated that the BJP cannot tolerate the presence of Rani Lakshmibai’s statue, a symbol of sacrifice for the nation, and that AAP will launch a major campaign in the national capital to prevent its removal.

“Disrespecting Great Leaders”

Sanjay Singh remarked, “People from across the country used to pay tribute to the statues of great leaders like Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Parliament, but the BJP-led central government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have disrespected them by removing their statues.”

He further stated that the BJP is now planning to remove the statue of Rani Lakshmibai. During a press conference in Delhi, Singh added, “For 53 years, the RSS and BJP have disrespected the national flag.”

Who Was Rani Lakshmibai?

Rani Lakshmibai, a renowned freedom fighter, was the queen of the Maratha-ruled state of Jhansi and a martyr in the struggle of 1857. She fought against the British army at the age of just 29 and sacrificed her life for the nation on the battlefield. AAP MP Sanjay Singh has vowed to campaign against the BJP if they proceed with plans to remove her statue.
