In a tragic incident in Delhi’s Rangpuri area, a man took his own life along with his four daughters by consuming a toxic substance. Police discovered the decomposed bodies on Friday after breaking into the flat where the family lived. The daughters, all with physical disabilities, were unable to move due to their conditions.
Hiralal, a 50-year-old carpenter by profession, had been living with his daughters in a rented flat in Rangpuri. Originally from Masrakh village in Bihar’s Chapra district, Hiralal had lost his wife to cancer a few years ago, which had left him devastated. His daughters, 18-year-old Neetu, 15-year-old Nishi, 10-year-old Neeru, and 8-year-old Nidhi, all had physical disabilities that required constant care.
On Friday, a neighbor reported a foul odor emanating from Hiralal’s flat, prompting the police to investigate. Upon arrival, the police broke down the door and were met with the overwhelming stench of decomposing bodies. Inside, Hiralal’s body was found lying on a bed in one room, while the bodies of his four daughters were found in another room. Initial investigations suggest the family consumed a poisonous substance, though no suicide note has been recovered.
The police suspect that the extreme pressure of caring for his disabled daughters, along with the grief of losing his wife, may have driven Hiralal to take this tragic step. According to neighbors, Hiralal had become increasingly withdrawn over the past few months, possibly due to the mounting stress of his situation. He would go to work during the day and return home to care for his daughters, who were completely dependent on him.
Hiralal’s wife, Sunita, had passed away after a long battle with cancer. Despite undergoing treatment, she couldn’t be saved. The couple’s first daughter was born with a disability, and in hopes of having a healthy child, they had three more daughters, but unfortunately, all were born with similar conditions.
The family had been living in the same flat for eight years but kept to themselves due to their struggles. Hiralal was last seen on September 24, and when his brother, Joginder, who lives in Bengali Market, was informed of the tragedy, he was shocked and couldn’t believe what had happened.
The police have taken statements from six individuals, including family members and neighbors, as part of their investigation. Hiralal’s mobile phone has been seized, and the bodies were sent for post-mortem examination. Forensic teams collected samples of food and packaging materials from the flat to assist in the investigation. The police are exploring all possible angles to understand the reasons behind this devastating event.
