TV actor Palak Sindhwani, who portrays Sonu Bhide in the enduring series Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, has responded to a legal notice issued by the show’s producers, Neela Film Productions, accusing her of “breach of contract.” Palak describes this action as mere “exploitation,” asserting that her decision to leave the show has led the makers to complicate her exit.
In an interview with Bombay Times, Palak revealed that she informed the production house of her intention to resign on August 8. However, she claims that they instructed her to send her resignation letter to an official email address that was never provided. The actor expressed her astonishment at reading articles alleging that she had breached her contract.
“I signed their contract five years ago, and they denied me a copy until September 19, 2024,” she explained. Palak mentioned that while the makers had allowed her to pursue brand endorsements post-pandemic, they only raised concerns about these activities after she decided to leave the show.
“After I announced my decision to quit, they began this plan of action against me. I have sought legal advice and will take the necessary steps for my career,” she stated, citing health reasons and the need for professional growth as her motivations for leaving. Despite several discussions with the makers, Palak noted that no solutions were reached.
“This is exploitation, and I never expected this after five years of working with them. Just because I want to quit Taarak Mehta, they are making my exit difficult,” she added.
The legal notice from Neela Film Productions, sent through their legal team, outlined alleged violations of key provisions in her exclusive artist agreement. It claims that Palak’s unauthorized third-party endorsements and appearances have caused “significant harm” to the show and its characters.
The notice detailed that despite multiple warnings, Palak’s actions had undermined the exclusivity clause, prompting the production house to take formal action. In response, Palak has reiterated her intent to leave the show, while the production house disputes her claims and intends to pursue the matter legally, seeking compensation for damages caused.
