IND vs BAN: India Announces Squad for Bangladesh T20 Series; Key Players Return After 3 Years

The BCCI has announced a 15-member Indian squad for the upcoming T20 series against Bangladesh, which will consist of three matches. Under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav, India will play the first match on October 6 in Gwalior. Notably, a key match-winner has returned to the team after a three-year absence, while a young fast bowler has earned his first national call-up. Additionally, Hardik Pandya and several young talents have secured their spots in the squad.

Mayank Yadav Earns His First National Call-Up

One of the most notable selections is that of fast bowler Mayank Yadav, who has been called up to the national team for the first time. The 22-year-old pacer gained attention with his impressive performances in IPL 2024 for Lucknow Super Giants, where he took 7 wickets in just 4 matches at an average of 12.14 and an economy rate of 6.98. Despite being sidelined due to injury, his IPL showing earned him a place in the national squad.

Varun Chakravarthy Returns After 3 Years

Another big news is the return of star spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who is making a comeback to the Indian team after almost three years. He made his international debut during India’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2021 and was later selected for the T20 World Cup, where he had a disappointing run. However, his consistent performances in the IPL, where he took 20 wickets in 14 matches in 2023 and 21 wickets in 15 matches in 2024, have earned him another chance.

Young Stars Shine in the Squad

Wicketkeeper-batsman Jitesh Sharma has also made his return to the team, having played earlier this year in a series against Afghanistan. Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was first called up for India’s tour of Zimbabwe earlier this year but missed out due to injury, has been included as well. Explosive opener Abhishek Sharma, who was overlooked for the recent Sri Lanka series, also finds a place in the squad.
