10th Standard Student Arrested After Five-Year-Old Girl Complains of Misconduct in Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal, September 30, 2024: In a shocking incident that has raised concerns about child safety in schools, a 10th standard student was arrested in Ratlam district, Madhya Pradesh, after a five-year-old girl reported inappropriate behavior. The young girl, a UKG student, informed her mother that she had been subjected to a “bad touch” in the watchman’s room on the third floor of the school.

The accused, the son of the school’s watchman, is a student of the same school as the victim. The incident, which took place on September 27, came to light when the girl bravely told her mother about the misconduct.

Additional Superintendent of Police, Rakesh Khakha, confirmed that an investigation is currently underway based on the complaint filed by the child’s mother. However, a challenge in the investigation is the lack of CCTV coverage on the third floor, as cameras are only installed on the first floor of the school.

The accused has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act, including Section 65(2) (pertaining to molestation of children under 12) and Section 75 of the Criminal Code.

The incident has sparked political responses, with Madhya Pradesh Congress president, Jitu Patwari, taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to criticize the BJP-led state government. He expressed concerns over the increasing number of incidents involving the safety of girls in schools, calling it a “daily reality” faced by many young girls in the state.
