In a tragic incident in Mumbai, a 40-year-old bank manager reportedly jumped into the sea from the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, commonly known as Atal Setu, on Monday morning.
Incident Details
The incident occurred around 10 am in the Sewri area. A passerby alerted authorities, prompting a search and rescue operation. According to police, the man arrived at the bridge in a car registered to Sushant Chakravarti. Investigators accessed CCTV footage to trace his movements.
Upon identifying Chakravarti, the police contacted his family, who reside in Parel. During questioning, his wife disclosed that he had been experiencing tremendous work pressure.
Background Information
Chakravarti was employed as a manager at a bank’s Hutatma Chowk office in Fort. Interestingly, just the previous weekend, he had taken his family for a getaway to Lonavala. On the day of the incident, he informed his family that he was going to work but instead drove to Atal Setu, where he took the drastic step.
Police have since examined his mobile phone and reported that they found no notes indicating any intentions of self-harm. Search teams are actively working to locate him in the sea.
Previous Incidents
This incident marks a troubling pattern, as it is not the first time Atal Setu has been the site of suicide attempts; five cases have been reported previously. Most victims were saved thanks to timely police intervention.
Authorities are urging anyone feeling overwhelmed to seek help and support.
