FIR Registered Against Alt News Co-Founder Mohammed Zubair for Tweet on Yati Narsinghanand

The Ghaziabad Police filed a first information report (FIR) on Monday against Alt News co-founder Mohammed Zubair, accusing him of promoting enmity between religious groups through a tweet about Hindutva leader Yati Narsinghanand.

The FIR was lodged following a complaint by one of Narsinghanand’s aides. Narsinghanand, the head priest of Dasna Devi temple in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, had allegedly made derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad during a sermon on September 29, sparking protests by Muslim groups in multiple cities.

On October 3, Zubair shared a video of the incident on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), calling for legal action against Narsinghanand. Multiple FIRs have been filed against Narsinghanand for alleged hate speech targeting the Muslim community.

Udita Tyagi, the general secretary of the Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati Foundation, lodged the complaint at Kavinagar Police Station, alleging that Zubair had circulated an outdated video of Narsinghanand to incite violence among Muslims. Tyagi claimed that the video was used with the intention of provoking unrest, as reported by PTI.

As a result, Zubair has been charged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including promoting enmity on religious grounds, fabricating evidence, committing deliberate acts meant to outrage religious sentiments, defamation, and criminal intimidation.

Additionally, a group of about 150 people reportedly pelted stones at police officers outside a temple in Ghaziabad during a protest against Narsinghanand’s remarks. Following the incident, six men were arrested by the police on Sunday for their alleged involvement in the violence.

Hindutva groups later submitted a memorandum to Ghaziabad Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Mishra, demanding strict action against those involved in the temple attack. They also urged legal action against Mohammed Zubair and AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi, accusing them of instigating Muslims against Narsinghanand’s supporters.
