The results of the 2024 Haryana Assembly elections have been declared, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) successfully forming the government for the third consecutive time. The BJP secured a majority by winning 48 out of the 90 seats in the state, while the Congress won 37 seats.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini defeated Congress candidate Meva Singh by a margin of 16,054 votes from the Ladwa seat. Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda recorded a victory from the Garhi Sampla seat by 71,465 votes.
Responding to the election results, Chief Minister Saini stated that the public has rejected Congress’s “lies.” Following the BJP’s success, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Saini to congratulate him on the victory.
The Congress described the results as “shocking,” while the overall voter turnout was 67.90%, slightly lower than the 68.20% in the previous election. The oath-taking ceremony for the new government is likely to take place on October 12.
