Meerut: Meerut is reeling from yet another spine-chilling crime, coming barely a month after the infamous Saurabh Rajput murder case. In a grim tale of deceit and betrayal, a 25-year-old man, Amit Kashyap — known to friends as Mickey — was found dead in his home in Akbarpur Sadat village under suspicious circumstances, with a viper snake placed under his body. What first appeared to be a tragic case of a snake bite has now been uncovered as a cold-blooded murder, allegedly orchestrated by his wife, Ravita, and her lover, Amardeep.
A Murder Disguised as a Serpent’s Strike
On Sunday morning, Amit was discovered lifeless in his bed. A viper lay nearby, leading initial accounts and neighbors to suspect a fatal snake bite. Reports circulated that Amit had been bitten ten times. However, a subsequent post-mortem at the district hospital shattered the narrative. Medical examiners determined the actual cause of death was strangulation, not envenomation.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Rural) Rakesh Kumar Mishra confirmed the findings and revealed during a press briefing that an elaborate plot had been hatched by the victim’s wife, Ravita, to disguise her crime as a natural, albeit tragic, snake encounter.
Love Affair Turns Deadly
Investigations uncovered a tangled love triangle. Ravita was allegedly having an affair with Amardeep, a friend of Amit’s. As suspicions and marital disputes grew, tensions in the Kashyap household escalated. Neighbors spoke of frequent arguments and signs of discord in the weeks leading up to the crime.
Police reports indicate that Ravita, desperate to silence her husband and protect her relationship with Amardeep, concocted an audacious murder plan. She managed to procure a snake for ₹1,000 from a local handler — a grim testament to the illicit wildlife trade thriving in rural India.
The Gruesome Night
According to police statements, on the night of the incident, Ravita strangled Amit while he slept. She then placed the snake beneath his lifeless body, hoping its inevitable defensive bites would lend credibility to the snakebite theory. Indeed, the trapped snake bit Amit several times posthumously.
However, forensic inconsistencies and the absence of venom traces in Amit’s bloodstream raised immediate red flags. Cornered during interrogation, both Ravita and Amardeep confessed to their involvement in the murder and the subsequent cover-up.
Meerut’s Second Shocking Case in a Month
This gruesome crime follows on the heels of the equally disturbing Saurabh Rajput case, where the 29-year-old Merchant Navy officer was murdered and his body dismembered by his wife and her lover. The city of Meerut, now twice in the headlines for grisly domestic crimes in a matter of weeks, is witnessing growing concern over the disturbing trend of intimate partner violence.
A Community in Disbelief
Locals in Akbarpur Sadat village expressed shock over the incident. “We knew there were issues in the household, but no one imagined it could end like this,” said a neighbor. The incident has reignited conversations about trust, domestic violence, and the dangerous extremes people can reach in the name of forbidden love.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Ravita and Amardeep have been arrested and charged under appropriate sections of the Indian Penal Code, including murder and criminal conspiracy. Investigators are also probing the source of the snake, with potential wildlife protection violations being considered.
As the community grapples with the horror of another intimate betrayal turned deadly, questions linger over how easily love, anger, and jealousy can boil over into tragedy.
