The Delhi High Court on Friday rejected the bail plea of Seema Rani Khakha, the wife of suspended Delhi government official Premoday Khakha, who is accused of raping and impregnating a minor girl. Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma denied the bail, stating that the case involved a breach of trust between two families, and there was a risk of witness tampering at this stage.
Premoday Khakha is accused of repeatedly raping a minor girl between November 2020 and January 2021. He has been in judicial custody since his arrest in August 2023. According to the police, the minor was the daughter of an acquaintance of the accused. Seema Rani, Khakha’s wife, is also accused in the case for allegedly giving the victim abortion pills. She remains in judicial custody as well.
Opposing Seema Rani’s bail, the Delhi police counsel argued that she was not a “silent spectator” but played an active role in the crime. The couple was arrested after the victim recorded her statement before a magistrate in a hospital.
