Rahul Gandhi Criticizes PM Modi, Calls Constitution Display a Sham

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday, alleging that displaying the Constitution in front of cameras is mere pretense when the government openly violates it. Gandhi’s remarks followed the death of a suspect, Mangesh Yadav, in a police encounter in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Yadav, who was wanted for a major robbery and had a bounty on his head, was killed in a confrontation with the police.

Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, called for a fair investigation into all such encounters in Uttar Pradesh. He accused BJP-ruled states of disregarding the law and Constitution, claiming that the BJP does not believe in the rule of law. He criticized the handling of police operations, suggesting that professional forces like the STF are being run like “criminal gangs” under BJP rule, with the central government’s silence indicating tacit approval of this approach.

Gandhi questioned the lack of accountability for officers involved in controversial encounters and demanded clarity on who is protecting them and why. He condemned the practice of showcasing the Constitution while violating its principles, branding it as mere hypocrisy.
