In a pivotal address at the inaugural India-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar highlighted the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza. Emphasizing that the situation is India’s top priority, Jaishankar urged swift action to halt the violence. “India’s stance remains clear and unwavering. While we denounce terrorism and hostage-taking, we are deeply troubled by the ongoing civilian casualties. Any response must align with humanitarian principles. We advocate for an immediate ceasefire,” he stated.
Jaishankar reaffirmed India’s support for a two-State solution to the Palestinian issue and underscored India’s ongoing efforts in building Palestinian capacities and providing humanitarian aid through UNRWA. He reflected on how global challenges, from pandemics to technological advances, underscore the importance of international cooperation. “In times of adversity, our shared values and mutual support become even more crucial,” he noted.
Highlighting the robust India-GCC relationship, Jaishankar described it as a rich blend of history and shared values, evolving into a comprehensive partnership encompassing various sectors. “Our bond is strengthened by the contributions of nearly 9 million Indians living and working in the GCC. Their role in economic progress is immensely valued,” he concluded.
