The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Telangana, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in several districts. This alert follows a depression in the Bay of Bengal that is moving north-northwest.
The affected districts include Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Adilabad, Nirmal, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Khammam. The IMD warns of heavy rainfall at isolated locations over the next two days.
According to State Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, 29 out of 33 districts have been declared flood-affected due to rainfall between August 31 and September 3. In Khammam, residents have been moved to relief camps as water levels in the Munneru river rose following recent rains.
The floods have resulted in 31 fatalities as of Saturday, according to government records. The situation remains critical as more rain could lead to further flooding.
