Audi of Maharashtra BJP Chief’s Son Involved in Multiple Collisions in Nagpur; Two Arrested

NAGPUR: A luxury Audi car registered in the name of Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule’s son, Sanket Bawankule, caused multiple collisions in Nagpur’s Ramdaspeth area early Monday morning. Two of the occupants, including the driver, were arrested, while three others, including Sanket Bawankule, reportedly fled the scene.

According to sources, the group, who were returning from a beer bar, were involved in the accidents around 1 am. The car first hit Jitendra Sonkamble’s vehicle and then struck a moped, injuring two young riders. Following this, the Audi collided with several more vehicles as it headed toward the Mankapur area.

The occupants of a Polo car, also hit by the Audi at a T-point, chased the vehicle and managed to stop it near the Mankapur bridge. At this point, Sanket Bawankule and two other occupants escaped, leaving behind the driver, Arjun Hawre, and another occupant, Ronit Chittamwar, who were apprehended by the people from the Polo car.

The police were informed, and both Hawre and Chittamwar were taken to the Tehsil police station before being handed over to Sitabuldi police for further investigation. A case of rash and negligent driving, among other charges, was filed based on the complaint from Sonkamble.

An officer from Sitabuldi police station confirmed the incident, adding that the arrested individuals were released on bail, and the investigation is ongoing. Blood samples of the driver and another arrested person have been sent for testing to determine if alcohol was involved.

Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule acknowledged that the car belonged to his son but urged for an impartial investigation. He stated, “The law should be equal for everyone. Those responsible should be charged accordingly, and I have not interfered with the police’s actions.”

The accident and its aftermath have sparked significant attention, with the police continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident. The injured victims are currently receiving medical treatment, and further details are awaited regarding the involvement of alcohol and the events leading to the collision.
