MUMBAI: The popular television series Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is embroiled in yet another legal controversy as the show’s producers have issued a formal notice to Palak Sindhwani, who plays Sonu Bhide. The notice alleges that Palak participated in unauthorized third-party endorsements and appearances without the required written approval, constituting a breach of her contract. The production team asserts that these actions have compromised the integrity of both her character and the series, prompting them to take formal action after numerous warnings.
In her response, Palak indicated her intention to exit the show soon, marking another departure from the long-running series.
This legal issue comes on the heels of previous controversies involving the show. Earlier, actress Jennifer Mistry Bansiwal filed a formal complaint against producer Asit Modi, operations head Sohail Ramani, and executive producer Jatin Bajaj, alleging inappropriate behavior and sexual advances. Jennifer won her hearing, with Asit mandated to pay her the remaining ₹5 lakh, alongside settling her outstanding dues. However, she expressed dissatisfaction with the verdict, stating, “It’s been over 40 days, and I still haven’t received my due amount… no punishment has been given to all three accused.”
Prior to Jennifer’s case, Shailesh Lodha, who played the titular character, also claimed that the producers owed him unpaid dues, leading to a legal dispute. In 2023, Shailesh triumphed in his case, forcing the makers to settle his full amount.
