Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh visited Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai on Friday to seek blessings ahead of Ganesh Chaturthi and the arrival of their first child. However, Deepika’s decision not to wear a mangalsutra during the visit has ignited a heated debate on X (formerly Twitter).
An X user criticized Deepika’s choice, stating, “Imagine making so much money and yet not wearing a mangalsutra, especially when visiting a temple. And #DeepikaPadukone is the brand ambassador for #Tanishq Lol.” This comment quickly stirred controversy, prompting a flood of responses.
One user countered, “Mangalsutra isn’t mandatory in many Hindu cultures, nor is it required in temples. And where’s your bindi? You need to understand the Gita before teaching others.” Another added, “Traditions are not compulsory. Mangalsutra isn’t a requirement to enter a temple. Let people follow or not follow traditions as they wish.”
Others expressed frustration with the scrutiny placed on women, noting, “Why is there so much pressure on women to wear a mangalsutra? Men aren’t questioned about marital symbols, but women face undue expectations.” Another comment read, “Let her live in peace; she’s carrying a child.”
During their visit, Deepika and Ranveer, dressed in traditional attire, were seen smiling and seeking blessings from Lord Ganesha. Deepika wore an emerald green saree while Ranveer opted for an off-white kurta pyjama. The couple, who announced their pregnancy in February, are expecting their baby this month.
On the work front, Deepika and Ranveer will next be seen in Singham Again, scheduled for a Diwali 2024 release. Ranveer will also appear in Aditya Dhar’s action film and Farhan Akhtar’s Don 3.
