Alia Bhatt’s highly anticipated solo film “Jigra” is facing significant challenges at the box office, failing to meet fan expectations and showing little sign of recovery. As of day five, the film has accumulated just ₹19.85 crore, with a modest ₹1.60 crore collected on its latest day, according to early estimates from Sacnilk.
Box Office Performance
“Jigra” recorded the lowest opening for an Alia Bhatt film in the last decade, earning ₹4.55 crore on its first day. Although the second day saw a slight uptick with ₹6.55 crore, the momentum quickly faded, and day three brought in only ₹5.5 crore. The film continued its downward trend, collecting ₹1.65 crore on Monday, further dimming hopes for a rebound as it struggled to cross the ₹20 crore mark.
Controversies Surrounding the Film
The film’s release has also been marred by controversy. Divya Khosla Kumar, actor and filmmaker, recently claimed that “Jigra” bears similarities to her project “Savi,” and accused Alia of manipulating box office figures. Additionally, Manipuri actor Bujou Thaangjam expressed disappointment over the casting team’s unprofessionalism, stating he was contacted to shoot in December but never received further communication.
About “Jigra”
“Jigra,” co-produced by Alia Bhatt and her sister Shaheen under Eternal Sunshine Productions, in collaboration with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions, features Alia as Satya Anand. The film follows her character’s desperate quest to rescue her brother Ankur from a foreign prison, where he is tortured and facing a death sentence. Alongside Alia, the cast includes Vedang Raina and Manoj Pahwa.
As the film continues its run, it remains to be seen whether it can recover from this rocky start.
