Afghan-Origin Gym Owner Shot Dead in Posh Delhi Neighbourhood

NEW DELHI, September 13, 2024: In a brazen act of violence, a 35-year-old gym owner was shot dead in full public view in South Delhi’s upscale Greater Kailash-1 colony on Thursday night. The shocking incident, captured on CCTV, has been linked to a gang war in the capital.

The victim, Nadir Shah, an Afghan-origin resident of Chittaranjan Park, was seen speaking to another individual next to parked cars when the attack occurred. At around 10:40 pm, a man in a chequered shirt approached them and opened fire. Shah’s companion fled the scene, but Shah was hit multiple times. The shooter then escaped on a motorcycle parked nearby. The police reported that the shooter fired between six to eight rounds before fleeing.

Shah was rushed to Max Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (South), Ankit Chauhan, confirmed the details of the attack and noted that Shah was immediately taken to the hospital by his friends but did not survive.

The attacker’s responsibility was claimed by Rohit Godara, a known affiliate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, in a social media post. Godara alleged that Shah was obstructing their business deals and issued a warning to others who might do the same. The authenticity of the post has yet to be confirmed by NDTV.

Police investigations revealed that Shah also owned a business in Dubai and had several criminal cases against him. He was reportedly a police informer with connections to senior Delhi Police officers.

The Delhi Police’s Special Cell has detained six individuals, including two who were present during the shooting. A significant cache of ammunition was also recovered. The detainees were reportedly involved in acquiring firearms and scouting the posh neighbourhood.

The shooter remains at large, and authorities are actively searching for him as the investigation continues.
