Jammu, September 7, 2024: Union Home Minister Amit Shah addressed a significant rally in Paloura, Jammu, asserting that the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) will determine the next government. Shah emphasized that the choice before the people of J&K is between facing a resurgence of terrorism or opting for peace, stability, and development.
Shah, speaking to a large crowd of BJP supporters, claimed that if parties like Congress, the National Conference (NC), or the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) come to power, it would lead to the re-emergence of terrorism in the region. He urged the voters to choose development and security over the return of violence.
Key Points from Shah’s Address:
- Jammu’s Influence: Shah highlighted the pivotal role of Jammu in the election, noting its 43 Assembly seats compared to 47 in Kashmir. He underscored the importance of BJP securing a significant number of seats in Jammu.
- Allegations Against Opposition: Shah accused the Abdullahs, Muftis, and Congress of being involved in rampant corruption and mismanagement, which he claimed had deprived J&K of crucial development funds. He criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and NC’s Omar Abdullah for misleading the public about statehood, asserting that only Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the central government can restore it.
- Historic Elections: Shah termed the forthcoming elections as historic, being the first under a unified national flag and Constitution following the abrogation of Article 370. He contrasted this with the past practices of having dual flags and constitutions.
- Development Achievements: The Home Minister showcased the Modi government’s achievements, including over Rs 32,000 crore spent on Jammu’s development and significant power projects aimed at boosting electricity production in the region.
- Criticism of NC and Congress: Shah criticized the NC and Congress for their past handling of terrorism and development issues, suggesting that their return to power would mean a revival of old, corrupt practices and a setback for progress.
- Appeal to BJP Workers: Shah encouraged BJP workers to ensure the victory of their candidates by actively engaging in the electoral process and rallying support.
The rally also saw tributes paid to Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee, Pandit Prem Nath Dogra, and Baba Daleep Singh Manhas. Shah concluded his speech by extending festive greetings on Ganesh Chaturthi and the Jain community’s Paryushana Parva.
As the elections approach, the BJP is focusing on consolidating its position in Jammu and advocating for continued development under Modi’s leadership.
