Another tragic incident in Tripura: Class 5 student returning from school allegedly abducted and raped

The accused has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act

GUWAHATI: In a chilling echo of a recent crime, another minor has been allegedly kidnapped and raped in Tripura, this time in the South Tripura district, while she was on her way home from school.

According to sources, a case has been registered at the Belonia women’s police station, reporting that a Class 5 student had not returned home after school. Her father expressed his concerns to local media, stating that they suspected their daughter had been kidnapped. After failing to locate her by inquiring at the school, they sought police assistance and lodged a complaint. The girl was eventually found near her house on Saturday evening.

“We were informed yesterday that a Class 5 student had not returned home from school. We immediately launched an investigation and discovered that a 22-year-old man from the same area had dropped her near her house. We have filed a First Information Report and initiated an investigation,” a police officer said.

The accused has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. No arrests have been made yet. Sources reveal that the minor was taken to different locations where she was sexually assaulted.

This incident follows another horrific case on Friday, where police arrested two men for allegedly gang-raping a minor in the North Tripura district. The accused, also from the same district, reportedly kidnapped her when she visited a shop on Thursday evening, took her to a nearby jungle, and sexually assaulted her. She was found unconscious on a road by locals, who then took her to a hospital and notified her family.

Last month, police arrested two minors for raping a girl in the South Tripura district.
