Communal Violence in Bahraich: Viral Video Shows Fatal Shooting of Ram Gopal Mishra, Extremists Seen Celebrating

Communal Violence in Bahraich Viral Video Shows Fatal Shooting of Ram Gopal Mishra

A viral video has surfaced on social media showing the fatal shooting of 22-year-old Ram Gopal Mishra during communal violence in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh. In the video, Mishra can be seen climbing to remove a green flag when he is shot, immediately collapsing to the ground. Following his death, extremist Muslim groups were seen celebrating, with one voice saying, “He’s dead, go, go.” The incident is part of a broader communal clash that erupted on October 13, 2024, during the Durga Puja immersion procession, leaving six others injured due to stone-pelting and gunfire.

The video has gained widespread attention, with many social media users, including Arun Kumar Singh, condemning the act. Singh wrote on the platform X, formerly Twitter, that the video highlights the growing issue of violence and terrorism in society, calling for strict security measures to be implemented.

Another user, Vishnu Tiwari, shared the video, urging Hindus to expose the “real rioters.” He claimed that the violence began when jihadists snatched and tore down saffron flags and threw stones at the Durga procession, causing tensions to escalate.

In the aftermath of the violence, Bahraich police registered 11 cases by October 16, 2024, and arrested 55 suspects. The main accused in the shooting, Sarfaraz, was killed in an encounter with police on October 17, 2024, while his accomplice Talib was injured while trying to flee to Nepal.

Ram Gopal Mishra’s post-mortem revealed that he suffered severe injuries, with 25 to 30 bullet fragments causing excessive blood loss, leading to his death. Dr. Sanjay Kumar, the chief medical officer, confirmed that Mishra also had visible facial injuries.
