New Delhi: Delhi Metro services were interrupted twice on Wednesday after two separate incidents of drones being found on the tracks. The disruptions occurred in the afternoon and again in the evening, affecting thousands of commuters on the busy Blue Line.
In the first incident, a drone was spotted between the Uttam Nagar East and Uttam Nagar West Metro stations at around 2:50 PM. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) halted services on the affected section for nearly 40 minutes to allow personnel to remove the drone safely. During this time, metro trains operated on a single track between Uttam Nagar East and Janakpuri West, and between Uttam Nagar West and Dwarka. Full services were restored at 3:29 PM after the drone was cleared and security checks were completed.
Later in the evening, another drone was discovered near Janakpuri Metro station, an important interchange between the Blue and Magenta lines. Services were temporarily stopped again while authorities retrieved the drone. According to officials, the drone appeared to be a toy, and its owner is being questioned. No suspicious activity has been detected so far.
The incidents caused minor delays on certain sections of the Blue Line, but services resumed smoothly after security clearances were given.
