Heavy rain continued to batter Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Friday morning, September 13, causing severe waterlogging and significant traffic disruptions. Several areas, including ITO, Sangam Vihar, and Kalkaji, have been heavily impacted, with visuals on social media showing submerged roads.
In response to the waterlogging issues, the Delhi traffic police have issued advisories for commuters. Traffic has been disrupted on major roads such as Guru Teg Bahadur Road, GTK Road, Main Outer Ring Road, and Rohtak Road due to waterlogging and sewer water overflow.
Traffic conditions are also affected on Lala Lajpat Rai Marg and Main Kanjhawla Road. The Delhi traffic police have urged commuters to plan their journeys carefully and avoid affected areas if possible.
IMD Issues ‘Yellow’ Alert
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a ‘yellow’ alert for Delhi-NCR, forecasting heavy rainfall throughout the day. The IMD’s bulletin predicts:
- Heavy to very heavy rain with extremely heavy rain at isolated places over west Uttar Pradesh.
- Heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places over Haryana, Chandigarh, east Uttar Pradesh, and east Rajasthan.
- Heavy rain at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh and Delhi.
- Thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places over northwest India, excluding Haryana.
The heavy rainfall is attributed to a depression moving closer to the region, which is expected to weaken into a low-pressure area by Friday afternoon.
