Ex-Naval Officer’s Son Arrested in Amritsar in Connection with Delhi’s 562 Kg Cocaine Seizure

The Delhi Police’s ongoing investigation into the ₹2,000-crore cocaine bust recently led to the arrest of a key suspect, the son of a former Indian naval officer, from Amritsar. The individual, who had been living in the UK for the past 27 years, was apprehended at the Amritsar airport as he attempted to flee to London.

The suspect is believed to be a significant player in the drug cartel and was responsible for coordinating the shipment of the drugs from Dubai to India. His involvement came to light after Tushar Goyal, a South Delhi businessman and the alleged mastermind behind the smuggling operation, named him during police questioning. Goyal claimed that this individual was the one who informed him about the consignment and provided instructions for its delivery across India. Goyal also revealed that he had been offered ₹3 crore for his role in the drug distribution.

Details of the Drug Operation

The cocaine, weighing 562 kg, along with 40 kg of Thai marijuana, was seized from a godown in Delhi’s Mahipalpur Extension. The consignment, believed to have originated from Panama, reached Dubai before being smuggled into India through Goa in mid-September. The drugs were then transported to Ghaziabad and later moved to the Mahipalpur godown just days before the raid.

Tushar Goyal, who has been linked to the Indian Youth Congress in the past, had rented a warehouse to store the drugs and had planned to distribute them across various states, including Odisha, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. Goyal’s family, which runs two publications, allegedly used the warehouse under the guise of storing books. Investigators revealed that the cartel operated with high-level coordination, involving handlers in Dubai and logistical support within India.

Three-Month Surveillance and Arrests

The Delhi Police’s Special Cell had been tracking the cartel for three months, relying on surveillance, encrypted messages, and human intelligence. Goyal, along with two of his associates—Aurangzeb Siddiqui and Himanshu Kumar—was arrested after meeting Bharat Jain, a resident of Mumbai, who had arrived in Delhi to collect part of the consignment.

The arrest of the ex-naval officer’s son is a significant breakthrough in the case. According to sources, the suspect was directly in touch with the Dubai-based handler, who orchestrated the smuggling operation. Police are now closely analyzing Goyal’s call records and CCTV footage to trace the complete drug route and identify other individuals involved.

The investigation is ongoing, with efforts underway to capture the Dubai-based handler and dismantle the entire drug network responsible for the record-breaking bust.
