Government Forms 24 Parliamentary Committees; Shashi Tharoor and Digvijaya Singh Appointed Heads

New Delhi: The central government has established 24 parliamentary committees. Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has been appointed chair of the Committee on External Affairs, while Digvijaya Singh will head the Committee on Women, Education, Youth, and Sports. Ram Gopal Yadav has been made the chair of the Health Committee, and Radha Mohan Das Agarwal will lead the Committee on Defense Affairs. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi has also been appointed as a member of the Defense Committee. Bhartrihari Mahtab has been named chair of the Committee on Financial Affairs.

From the BJP, Nishikant Dubey has been appointed chair of the Committee on Communications and IT. Kangana Ranaut, BJP MP from Mandi, will serve as a member of this committee. BJP leader C.M. Ramesh has been appointed chair of the Committee on Railways.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) each received the chairmanship of two committees, while Janata Dal (United) and Samajwadi Party (SP) have one committee each. Rajiv Pratap Rudy will lead the Permanent Committee related to the Ministry of Water Resources. Yusuf Pathan has been appointed to the Committee on Commerce, and Harbhajan Singh will serve on the Committee related to the Ministry of Education. Charanjit Singh Channi has been appointed chair of the Committee related to the Ministry of Agriculture.

Members of these committees are drawn from different political parties, helping Parliament perform its core functions more efficiently.
