The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued heavy rainfall alerts for 22 states over the next 24 hours, with significant impacts already being reported in several regions.
Gujarat:
The state of Gujarat has been hit hard this monsoon season, with heavy rains and flooding leading to the deaths of 49 individuals so far. The situation remains critical, with the IMD issuing a heavy rainfall alert for the next five days. The ongoing rains have exacerbated the flood conditions, causing extensive damage to infrastructure and homes.
Himachal Pradesh:
In Himachal Pradesh, continuous rainfall has resulted in the closure of 119 roads, including two national highways. The state has reported 153 deaths due to weather-related incidents. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for rainfall and potential flooding in six districts, including Chamba, Kangra, Kinnaur, Mandi, Shimla, and Sirmaur. The situation is compounded by landslides and blocked roads, disrupting daily life and emergency services.
Rajasthan:
Rajasthan is experiencing heavy rainfall, with alerts issued for the next three days. The state has recorded 54% more rainfall than average this season. The increased water levels in Udaipur’s Pichola Lake are a testament to the intensity of the rains. The IMD forecasts that the monsoon will slow down after September 8, but the current conditions are causing widespread issues.
Nagaland:
Nagaland has faced severe landslides due to heavy rain, particularly in the Chumoukedima district. The landslides have led to the deaths of six people, including a woman, and have left several others missing. Major sections of NH-29 have been washed away, complicating rescue and relief efforts.
Maharashtra:
In Maharashtra’s Marathwada region, heavy rains have resulted in 10 deaths and affected 1454 villages. The region has seen extensive damage to homes and infrastructure. The monsoon’s impact has been severe, with over 1126 houses reported damaged.

Delhi and surrounding areas have faced traffic disruptions due to heavy rainfall, particularly on the Delhi-Jaipur National Highway, where significant traffic jams were reported.

- Heavy Rainfall Alerts: The IMD has issued alerts for 18 states, including Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, and Karnataka.
