Hospital ICU Assault Case: Suspect Arrested After Four-Day Manhunt in Gurugram

GURUGRAM: After a four-day intensive search, police have arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman in the ICU of a private hospital in Gurugram. The shocking incident, which sparked widespread concern, involved a patient who was on a ventilator when the alleged assault occurred.

The accused, identified as Deepak, was working as a technician at Medanta Hospital and had been employed there for around five months. He was tracked down and arrested in Gurugram after being on the run since the incident. Originally from Badhauli village in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, Deepak had managed to evade authorities despite tight surveillance.

To catch him, police formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and deployed eight additional teams, reviewing 800 CCTV camera recordings and questioning hospital staff. Their efforts finally led to his arrest.

The case involves a 46-year-old air hostess who was admitted to Medanta on April 5 for emergency care. She was placed on a ventilator and remained in the ICU for over a week. The alleged assault took place on April 6, just a day after her admission.

Due to her critical condition, the woman said she was unable to resist the attack. Shockingly, she claimed that two nurses were present during the incident but did not step in. She revealed what happened to her husband after she was discharged on April 13, who then immediately contacted the police.

A formal FIR was filed on April 14 at the Sadar Police Station. The hospital later confirmed it had been informed of the allegations and said in a public statement that it is cooperating fully with the investigation. The hospital also said the accused employee has been suspended.

This case has raised serious questions about patient safety and staff accountability, especially in critical care units where patients are most vulnerable.

Authorities continue their investigation, and further action is expected as more details emerge.
