BJP MP and actress Kangana Ranaut has taken back her statements regarding the controversial farm laws after facing severe criticism. In a video posted on her social media account, she expressed regret for her remarks and acknowledged the discontent they caused among the public.
“I had suggested that farmers should request the Prime Minister to reintroduce the farm laws. However, this statement has hurt many, and I deeply regret it,” Kangana stated in the video. She further clarified that as a BJP MP, her views should align with the party’s stance and not be based on personal opinions. “I am no longer just an actor; I am a representative of my party. I apologize for my words and take them back,” she added.
This comes in the wake of strong reactions from both her party and the opposition. Earlier, Kangana had posted on social media that her views on the farm laws were her own and did not reflect the official position of the BJP. Despite this clarification, a video of her advocating for the reintroduction of the repealed farm laws was widely shared, sparking controversy.

The Congress party responded sharply, accusing the BJP of planning to reintroduce the farm laws, which were withdrawn in 2021 after prolonged protests. Over 750 farmers reportedly lost their lives during the year-long agitation, leading to the eventual repeal of the laws in November 2021.
BJP spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia distanced the party from Kangana’s comments, stating, “These are her personal views and do not represent the BJP’s stance on the farm laws. We disapprove of her statement.”
This is not the first time Kangana’s comments on the farm laws have stirred controversy. In the past, she has made several provocative statements, leading to legal trouble and criticism from various quarters, including the BJP. An MP-MLA court in Bulandshahr recently summoned her in response to a complaint filed by the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Kisan Shakti).
The three contentious laws — the Farmer’s Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act — were introduced in June 2020 but were repealed following massive protests from the farming community.
As political reactions continue to pour in, it remains to be seen how this episode will impact Kangana’s political career and the BJP’s stance on agricultural reforms in the future.
