The Madras High Court has directed the Tamil Nadu government to provide information regarding the criminal cases filed against the Isha Foundation. This order came during a hearing of a habeas corpus petition filed by S. Kamaraj, a retired professor from Coimbatore.
In his petition, Kamaraj claimed that his two daughters, aged 42 and 39, had been “brainwashed” into living at the Isha Yoga Centre in Coimbatore. He alleged that the Foundation’s authorities were preventing his daughters from maintaining contact with their family.
Kamaraj also informed the Court about several pending criminal cases and allegations of sexual harassment and misconduct against the Isha Foundation.
During the proceedings, both daughters appeared in court, confirming that they were at the Foundation of their own free will and that no coercion was involved. However, the judges opted to speak with them privately in chambers to gain further insight into their situation.
