Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: Former Principal and Police Officer Arrested
In the case of the rape and murder of a medical trainee doctor on August 9 in Kolkata, the CBI has arrested former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Sandeep Ghosh, and SHO of Tala police station, Abhijeet Mandal. Both are accused of tampering with evidence. Sandeep Ghosh was already in CBI custody in connection with a financial irregularities case, and his arrest in this new case has worsened the situation. Students and doctors at the college held massive protests, and attempts at dialogue between CM Mamata Banerjee and the doctors failed. Doctors meeting with CM Mamata demanded live streaming, which she refused, citing the Supreme Court.
