A YouTuber, running a news portal, was arrested in Ghaziabad for allegedly posting defamatory content against former Army chief and ex-Union minister V.K. Singh. The arrest came after a complaint was lodged by Singh, who previously served as a Lok Sabha MP for Ghaziabad.
The complaint targeted the portal’s editor-in-chief, Ran Singh, and a local iron trader, Anand Prakash, who allegedly made the false claims. According to the police, the YouTube channel had posted unverified allegations that V.K. Singh failed to pay rent for his official residence during his occupancy.
V.K. Singh refuted these claims, calling them “baseless” and lacking any factual support. He expressed that the post had damaged his reputation both nationally and internationally, particularly in Uttar Pradesh, and caused emotional distress. He emphasized that no legal body, including the Supreme Court or High Court, had ever passed such judgments regarding his residential situation, questioning how a businessman could make such false statements.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (City) Rajesh Kumar Singh confirmed the YouTuber’s arrest and stated that further investigations were ongoing. The charges filed include defamation, intentional insult to provoke breach of peace, criminal conspiracy, and violations under the IT Act.
The police are continuing their investigation to determine further actions against the individuals involved in the defamatory post.
