The squad sees the return of wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant, who has been out of Test cricket for nearly 20 months due to injuries from a car accident. Pant’s inclusion marks a significant comeback as he resumes his role with the national team.

Pant had last played in a Test against Bangladesh at Mirpur from December 22-25, 2022, before his accident. He made his return to competitive cricket in the IPL earlier this year and was part of India’s T20 World Cup-winning squad.
Mohammed Shami, despite earlier indications from selector Ajit Agarkar that he might return for this Test, did not make it into the squad. The team will be led by Rohit Sharma with support from experienced players like Kohli and Bumrah.

Bangladesh will enter this series with confidence after a historic 2-0 series win over Pakistan in their own backyard. Meanwhile, India’s last Test assignment was a 4-1 series win against England earlier this year.
