Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh: Security has been significantly strengthened in Kanpur ahead of the second Test match between India and Bangladesh, scheduled to be held at the International Green Park Stadium from September 27. A senior official confirmed the deployment of extensive security arrangements on Tuesday.

The heightened security comes in the wake of an FIR filed against 20 members of the Akhilesh Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha. They were accused of obstructing the road before the stadium to organize a ‘havan’ in protest against the alleged atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh, according to Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Harish Chander.

Teams Arrive Amid Tight Security:

Both teams arrived at Kanpur’s Chakeri airport and were escorted to their hotel under heavy security cover. The players will hold their practice sessions on Wednesday and Thursday at the Green Park Stadium, which is located approximately 1,500 meters from the hotel.

Upon arrival, the players were welcomed at a five-star hotel, which has been fortified for their safety. “Nearly 2,000 police personnel have been deployed for the security of the teams and VVIPs. The Green Park Stadium has also been sealed off, with over 1,000 police officers stationed in and around the area as part of a foolproof security plan,” said a senior police official.

Strict Adherence to Guidelines:

Officials have instructed the teams to strictly adhere to security guidelines. Team members are required to provide advance notice before leaving the hotel premises.

The FIR against the members of the Akhilesh Bhartiya Hindu Mahasabha includes charges under various sections such as 189(2) (unlawful assembly), 191(2) (rioting), 223 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), and 285 (obstruction in a public way or line of navigation). The accused named in the FIR include Rakesh Mishra, Vikas, Atul, Jaydeep, Vikas Gupta, Prashant Dheer, Ajay Rathore, Ashish, Brajesh, and 10 other unidentified individuals.

Coordination with Agencies:

The authorities are working in coordination with central and state agencies, including the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and state intelligence, to gather and share information regarding any potential threats. The Green Park Stadium and Hotel Landmark have been divided into sectors, zones, and sub-zones, with DCP, Additional DCP, and ACP rank officers in charge of respective areas, according to DCP (East) Shrawan Kumar Singh, the nodal officer for the event.

Traffic Arrangements:

Traffic diversions have been implemented around the stadium to ensure smooth movement and security during the match. Chander mentioned that additional police forces, including senior officials, have been requested for deployment.

“We are reviewing the security arrangements and are confident that the necessary measures will be in place to ensure the safety of everyone involved,” Chander added.
