Bengaluru: The dismembered body of a 29-year-old woman, Mahalakshmi from Jharkhand, was found in a refrigerator in a flat in Vyalikaval on Saturday. The discovery was made by the landlord, who entered the apartment after neighbors reported a foul odor.
Mahalakshmi had been living alone in the flat for five months, following domestic issues with her husband, Hemant Das. The body was found in 30 pieces within a 165-litre refrigerator. Initial assumptions by neighbors pointed to spoiled food as the source of the smell, but the situation escalated, prompting further investigation.
Police indicate that the murder likely took place four to five days before the body was discovered. Mahalakshmi’s mobile phone had been switched off since September 12. Hemant Das, who lives separately with their daughter, is currently being questioned by authorities.
Additional Commissioner of Police (West Zone) N. Satheesh Kumar confirmed the identification and stated that the investigation is ongoing. The case has drawn comparisons to other recent high-profile murder cases, raising concerns about domestic violence and safety. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
