The police later found the knife wrapper, which led them to the shop where the knife was purchased. The horrifying incident came to light on September 20 when Mahalakshmi’s decomposing body parts were discovered by her family after they noticed a foul smell coming from her apartment. On September 25, Mukti Ranjan was found dead, having committed suicide by hanging himself in his hometown in Odisha.
