Bengaluru: A 29-year-old woman’s body was discovered dismembered and stored in a refrigerator at her residence in the Vyalikaval area on Saturday. The grim finding was made in a single-bedroom flat located on the first floor of a three-storey building on 6th Cross, Pipe Line Road.
The victim, Mahalakshmi, originally from Nepal, had married Hemanth Das five years ago but had been estranged from him earlier this year. Their four-year-old daughter resides with Das, who works at a mobile accessory shop in Nelamangala. Das would visit Mahalakshmi every fortnight to allow her time with their daughter.
Concerns arose when Mahalakshmi did not respond to phone calls. On Saturday afternoon, her sister and mother, both residents of the same building, used a spare key to enter her locked apartment. They were immediately met with a strong, foul odor and a disturbing scene.
Inside, they found the floor sticky and covered with blood, with signs of decomposition evident. Upon opening the refrigerator, they discovered Mahalakshmi’s body parts stuffed inside, prompting a frantic reaction from her mother. The police were alerted soon after.
Authorities reported that Mahalakshmi’s phone had been switched off since September 2, raising concerns about her well-being. A police investigation revealed that body parts were arranged in the refrigerator, with legs placed on top and the head at the bottom. The scene was so disturbing that officers required protective gear, and one sub-inspector was visibly affected by the stench.
As news of the incident spread, a large crowd gathered outside the building, leading to challenges in maintaining order. Forensic teams were called to collect evidence from the scene as the investigation continues. The case highlights ongoing concerns about domestic violence and safety in the community.
