Security forces in the Naxal-affected Sukma district of Chhattisgarh have arrested eight Naxalites, including a wanted militant, and seized explosives from their possession. Police officials reported this on Saturday. The arrests were made in the Jagargunda police station area of the district.
On September 12, a joint team comprising the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), District Force, Bastar Fighters, and the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was dispatched for a patrol in the Jagargunda area. As the team approached the village of Benpalli, some suspicious individuals attempted to flee the scene. The security forces quickly surrounded and apprehended them.
Among those arrested was militia commander Muchaki Pala (33), who had a bounty of one lakh rupees on his head. A large quantity of explosives was recovered from the arrested Naxalites. During interrogation, the militants revealed that they were planning to set up explosives to harm the security forces on the orders of their Naxalite leaders.
Authorities have stated that anti-Naxalite operations in the region are ongoing.
