Father of Rape Survivor Arrested for Assisting Accused in Securing Bail in Rajasthan

A private school principal and the father of a 14-year-old rape survivor have been arrested on charges of tampering with the girl’s birth records to aid the accused in securing bail, according to police sources on Sunday. The principal, identified as Prannath Mal, was apprehended in Deoria on Thursday, while the girl’s father, Sanjay, was arrested from Behror in Rajasthan late Saturday night, reported Sunil Kumar Jangir, Station House Officer (SHO) of Murlipura Police Station.

The case began when the girl filed an FIR in July, alleging that her aunt had sold her to one Sandeep Yadav from Haryana for ₹2 lakh, after which she was raped. The FIR led to the arrest of Yadav, his father Satveer Yadav, and the girl’s aunt, all of whom are now in judicial custody.

During the ongoing investigation, it was revealed that the girl’s father had approached a private school in Uttar Pradesh, seeking to alter records to falsely represent the girl as an adult rather than a minor. The principal allegedly altered the school’s register to show the girl’s birth year as 2003, instead of her actual birth year of 2010, thus claiming she was 21 years old.

Upon discovering discrepancies between the girl’s official record and the falsified document, the police launched a separate investigation into the tampering. A team dispatched to Uttar Pradesh confirmed the alterations in the school register. Following this, Principal Mal was detained, and during questioning, he admitted that the girl’s father had solicited his assistance in producing the false records. Consequently, Sanjay was arrested on Saturday night.

Both the principal and the girl’s father are now facing charges related to document tampering.
