In Bhiwandi, Thane district, four unidentified individuals were booked for allegedly pelting stones at a Ganpati immersion procession on September 18, according to a police official on Saturday. The incident occurred during the immersion procession of the Sri Hanuman Sarvajanik Mitra Mandal shortly after midnight, resulting in damage to the idol and creating tension in the Vanjarpatti Naka locality.
“The stones were reportedly thrown from the direction of a chicken shop,” said the official. A complaint was lodged by a VHP functionary, leading to the registration of a case against the unidentified suspects.
The individuals have been charged under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including section 298 (injuring or defiling a place of worship with intent to insult religion), section 125 (endangering life or personal safety), and section 324(4) (mischief).
