Late at night, a woman standing outside Agra Cantt Railway Station made a distress call to the police for help.
Agra: On a late Friday night, a woman dressed in black pants and a white shirt was seen standing outside Agra Cantt Railway Station. Feeling scared and anxious due to the deserted surroundings, she called the police emergency number, 112, saying, “I’ve arrived in Agra. It’s late, and the roads are deserted, which is making me feel scared and anxious. I need police assistance.”
However, this woman was not just an ordinary traveler but a high-ranking officer. The woman in question was ACP (Assistant Commissioner of Police) Dr. Sukanya Sharma. As part of a mission to assess public safety, especially for women, and check on how the police respond to such situations, she posed as a regular tourist on the streets of Agra late at night.
How the Police Assisted the ‘Tourist Woman’
After listening to Sukanya Sharma’s call, the 112 emergency team guided her to stand in a safe location while they continued to gather more information over the phone. Within three minutes, a “Pink PRV” team (Police Response Vehicle for women’s safety) contacted her and was dispatched to safely escort her. After revealing her identity, the ACP explained that she was evaluating the response time and efficiency of the 112 emergency service, and she confirmed that the team passed the test.
Auto Driver Also Passes the Reality Check
Following this, ACP Sukanya turned her attention to the “Women Safety Autos.” She boarded an auto after agreeing on the fare. The driver safely dropped her at the designated location. During the ride, without revealing her identity, she inquired about the Women Safety Auto initiative. The driver informed her that the police had verified his credentials and that soon he would begin driving with a uniform and ID number. In her first day of reality checks, both the police and the auto driver passed with flying colors.
Ground Reality Revealed Through Efforts Like This
For police officers, sometimes the only way to understand the ground reality is to go undercover as an ordinary citizen. This helps them uncover the true conditions on the streets. If police and administrative officers continue to work diligently, significant progress can be made toward building a safer state. ACP Sukanya’s initiative is a step in that direction, one that deserves praise.
