A major fire has broken out at Times Tower, a seven-storey commercial building in Mumbai’s Kamala Mill compound in Lower Parel. The blaze, which began around 6:30 AM, has prompted an extensive response from the fire brigade, which has dispatched nine fire engines and other firefighting vehicles to the scene. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties thus far.
The fire is currently confined to the electric duct area between the 3rd and 7th floors of the building. The Times Tower, known for its glass façade, is being closely monitored as efforts to control the blaze continue.
This incident recalls a similar tragedy on December 29, 2017, when a fire in the Kamala Mill compound claimed 14 lives and resulted in several injuries. In that case, a number of individuals, including restaurant owners and BMC officials, were charged. However, in November 2020, the Mumbai sessions court discharged the compound’s owners from the case.
In a related recent incident, a fire at Options Commercial Centre in Santacruz West on February 26 led to the rescue of 37 people, with the fire contained primarily to electric wiring.
