Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has sharply criticized recent drone attacks in his state, labeling them as acts of terrorism. These assaults resulted in two fatalities and seven injuries in Koutruk and Senjam Chirang villages. Singh condemned the use of drones to target civilians and security personnel, describing the attacks as “unjustifiable acts of terror.”
Singh’s strong statements came after Kuki militants were reportedly responsible for dropping bombs on civilian areas, heightening tensions in the region. The Chief Minister vowed to address these attacks with decisive measures and called for unity among Manipur’s citizens to combat violence and extremism.
In response to the escalating violence, Singh’s son-in-law has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to reassign control from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to state authorities. He criticized the CAPF for being ineffective and advocated for state forces to lead the efforts in restoring peace.
The recent attacks have prompted increased security measures, including a deployment of forces and retaliatory operations by both the police and military. Singh has also visited affected areas to assess the situation and bolster local response efforts.
The call for state control over security operations reflects a growing frustration with the current handling of the crisis and a push for more effective management of the violence affecting the region.
