Manipur Security Forces Deploy Anti-Drone Systems After Attacks by Suspected Kuki Insurgents

New Delhi – In response to recent drone attacks by suspected Kuki insurgents in Manipur, security forces have swiftly adapted by deploying anti-drone systems. The attacks, which occurred on Sunday, marked the first recorded instance of weaponized drones being used against civilians in India, resulting in at least one fatality.

Following these attacks, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) demonstrated the effectiveness of their anti-drone technology and plans to increase its deployment in the region. The Assam Rifles have also introduced several anti-drone systems in peripheral areas to counter any further aerial threats.

Manipur Police have begun acquiring their own anti-drone systems to bolster security and address the emerging threat from drones. The state’s Chief Minister had previously raised concerns about potential drone attacks, and these fears have now prompted urgent action.

The conflict between the Kuki tribes and the Meitei community, which has been ongoing since May 2023, has escalated tensions in the region. In response, security operations are underway, including extensive combing efforts in affected areas, as officials work to assure the safety of local residents.
