Protests Erupt in Dharavi Over BMC’s Decision to Demolish Subhania Mosque

MUMBAI: Massive protests broke out in Mumbai’s Dharavi on Saturday after the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) declared the 25-year-old Subhania Mosque on 90 Feet Road illegal and planned its demolition. Local residents took to the streets, demanding that the mosque not be demolished, with many protesters refusing to leave despite police intervention.

Protesters have been sitting on the streets since Friday night, blocking traffic and urging the authorities to reconsider the demolition. Police officers have been urging the crowd to clear the roads and maintain law and order, but while some demonstrators have vacated parts of the road, many remain seated near the mosque.

The BMC’s decision to declare the mosque unauthorized has fueled unrest, with locals expressing strong opposition to the move. Protests continue, as community members demand a resolution that does not involve the demolition of their place of worship.
