Surat, September 21, 2024 – In a suspected sabotage attempt, unidentified individuals tampered with a railway track between Kosamba and Kim railway stations in Surat, Gujarat, by removing fish plates and loosening 40-50 bolts. Fortunately, the incident was discovered before any train could pass through the affected section, preventing a potential disaster.

The damage was detected early Saturday morning by a lineman during routine inspections. The lineman immediately alerted the railway authorities after discovering that two fish plates had been removed and placed on the parallel track, said Superintendent of Police, Surat (rural), Hitesh Joysar.

Deputy Superintendent of Police RR Sarvaiya confirmed that the lineman found the tampering at approximately 5:30 AM. Railway engineers and other staff quickly arrived at the scene to repair the damage, ensuring that train movement resumed without further incident.

Inspector PH Jadeja of Kim Police Station stated that the quick actions of the railway staff averted a potential derailment. Authorities have launched an investigation into the sabotage attempt, with a case being registered.

The alertness of the railway staff played a critical role in preventing a significant accident, and investigations are ongoing to identify those responsible for the attempt to derail the train.
