Olympian wrestler and former Congress candidate Vinesh Phogat has responded to former Wrestling Federation chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s recent claims, asserting that his accusations have been consistently proven false.
Singh, who previously led the Wrestling Federation and served as an MP, suggested that Phogat’s foray into politics was merely a political maneuver orchestrated by the Congress party. He also claimed that Phogat’s disqualification from the Olympics was due to her own rule violations, including attempting to compete in two different weight categories on the same day, and implied that her failure to reach the finals was a “divine judgment.”
In a recent interview with NDTV, Phogat countered these allegations, stating, “If Singh wishes to find answers, he should examine the circumstances surrounding the Jantar Mantar protests, where two BJP leaders had received permission to be present.”
Phogat also addressed Singh’s past statements, in which he had vowed to resign if any woman came forward with accusations against him. “Despite his claims, I have demonstrated my commitment through competition, qualifying for the Olympics on my own merit,” Phogat said. “His statements have been unfounded, and I will continue to prove him wrong, just as I have in the past.”
