Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in New York during the final day of his three-day visit to the U.S. on Monday. This marks their third meeting in the past three months, following a recent visit by PM Modi to Ukraine just a month ago. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, this meeting was arranged at the request of the Ukrainian side. The two leaders engaged in a lengthy discussion, and PM Modi shared photos of their meeting on social media.
After the meeting, PM Modi wrote on social media, “Had a productive meeting with President Zelensky in New York. We are committed to implementing the outcomes of my recent visit to Ukraine to strengthen our bilateral relations. India reiterates its support for a peaceful resolution and the early restoration of peace and stability in Ukraine.”
Discussion Highlights Between PM Modi and President Zelensky
A video shared by ANI showed PM Modi and President Zelensky warmly greeting each other with hugs and handshakes. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar was also present at the bilateral meeting. President Zelensky appreciated India’s attention to the Ukraine conflict and PM Modi’s efforts towards peace. During the meeting, PM Modi emphasized India’s commitment to peace and noted that he had spoken with several world leaders who agree that the war must end, and a solution must be found.
The meeting between PM Modi and President Zelensky is considered significant, especially as U.S. President Joe Biden had previously praised PM Modi’s visit to Ukraine. In a United Nations conference on Monday, PM Modi remarked that humanity’s success lies in collective strength, not in battlefields. This marks the third time in three months that the two leaders have met, underscoring the ongoing efforts to find a peaceful resolution to the Ukraine conflict.
